Update: Regal Cinemas WILL in fact be doing a special opening of the Film this Thursday @ 9pm only for 3D then of course regular show times will follow on Friday. Wonder who cracked!
Original Story: The fight between Walt Disney Studios and movie theater chains over how to split revenue from ticket sales for the much-anticipated Iron Man 3 is turning into trouble.
I personally don't understand why the fight seeing as the movie could and probably will gross over a billion dollars. It's freaking Iron Man were talking about.
This is the stepping stone between Avengers 1 and 2 and not only that the director Shane Black who is a fan of Nolan's Dark Knight series.
Those Batman films grossed millions to billions of dollars, it's a recipe for success. However a battle over ticket sales seem a little ridiculous.
Regal Entertainment who has over 7,000 screens in over 500 locations has removed all marketing for the movie, said a worker who asked not to be identified. They were told just to remove marketing and not told why at first but later were given a reason.
Fandango still shows cinemas playing the movie starting next Wednesday but there from theaters that aren't own by the three big players; Regal, AMC and Cinemark.
According to many sources and from trying to purchase tickets for the film Regal and AMC Entertainment decided to stop selling advance tickets claiming that Disney was seeking an even large take of the box office revenue at about 65% which is up almost 15% from the norm.
This seems pretty achievable though for Iron Man to help produce these funds. Still it's up in the arm for advance release and future release of this movie. I figured just China would be the only place boycotting the film, not the US. Kind of ironic seeming the overall tone of the film.
