Review: "Playstation All Stars: Battle Royale" (2012) "A Fight Battle For Coexistence"

Ever wonder what it would be like to play as Nathan Drake"Uncharted" , or go toe to toe with Cole from "Infamous" then this game is for you! Ever want to play a game on your PS3 then pick up again on your vita? Or want to challenge others from all current Sony devices then this game is for you!

So let’s quickly get this misconception out of the way that is, "PlayStation All Stars: Battle Royal" a complete rip off of  the "Super Smash Bros" series? In short no, the main concept is of course but many other companies use other games as inspiration so Sony shouldn’t be knocked for taking a great idea like super smash brothers and injecting a very welcome and intelligent combat system with all the iconic and even a few welcome third party characters. Plus Nintendo missed one major concept. The fact that you can play the game on your vita or ps3. I mean for the price it's great you get two games!

We are all Nintendo fan's here but we're sick of waiting for the "Super Smash Bros." for Wii or even Wii U with cross game play for the Nintendo 3DS.

Now starting it off all the characters are immediately unlocked meaning that there is really
no reason to do the single player story other than to get the trophies and to get familiar on how each
character handles and how their specials work. Which is a distinitive difference in both games, seeing as how you have to unlock characters in "Super Smash Bros." Another difference between "PlayStation All Stars" and "Super Smash Bro"s other than the characters is that the only way to beat your opponent is to use a super attack.

There are three levels to a character’s super level one being the weakest and the easiest one to interrupt or dodge. Then the level two which is much harder to interrupt or dodge and finally the
level three which for the most part is impossible to dodge depending on which character activated it. Also another noteworthy addition is that every character handles completely differently from the other with completely different attack, grabs, and supers to boot.

The character that I was immediately drawn to was Dante from the "Devil May Cry" series he handles quite well and I found myself having a lot of fun. I loved pulling off
long complicated air combos keeping my opponents in the air for a good period of time.

Unfortunately the character roster is quite small only 20 characters to start off I believe but Superbot has promised more characters to come as free downloadable content. Also none of the items in the game are memorable I can only name about two of the items off the top of my head and that is the Hedgehog Grenade from "Resistance" and Medusa’s head from "God of War". Also some of the characters are simply too overpowered either because of their size or sheer aggressiveness. For example "Sackboy" builds up action points far too quickly which is how you execute your supers and is impossible to hit because of his small stature, or "Sly Cooper" can infinitely teleport his way around the battlefield using his smoke screen ability which has no cool down time whatsoever and his level one has a ridiculous kill range.

In conclusion "PlayStation All Stars: Battle Royale" is a fun addition to Sony’s already large roster of
games bringing all of your Sony characters together and watching them beat the "crap out" of each other and with very few character balancing issues. There is always room for improvement in games, but Sony does strive for excellence as always.

Greatest Reviews gives; "PlayStation All Stars: Battle Royale" (2012) 4 stars out of 5. Due to character selection though there is hope in the the future for move characters. Plus with cross game play you can't go wrong. This is by far Sony's best cross game-play game and they saved the best for last ending the 2012 year.
