Review: "Gears Of War: Judgement" (2013) "We Find You Gulity."

Some of my fondest memories of the Xbox 360 are from the Gears of War series. The earliest of which is waking up from a nap on the couch to my brother playing the first GoW.

I remember how excited I got when I saw him destroy a Locust with a gnasher. Gears of War 2 brought horde mode, which was me and my friend’s favorite thing when it came out. The new Gears of War Judgment does nothing for me. Not because it feels old, but because Epic changed so much that it doesn’t feel like a Gears game anymore.

Judgment takes place 15 years prior to the first game.

Instead of running around as the badass Marcus Fenix, you play as the wise-cracking Damon Baird. Along with Baird there is Thrasher Ball player Augustus Cole. New comers Sofia Hendrik and Garron Paduk make Kilo Squad. The game starts off with Kilo Squad being arrested for many charges by the 80’s pornstar mustache wearing Ezra Loomis.

The game is broken down into each Kilo Squad members’ testimonies about their actions that may have caused a lot of people to die. The way Epic chopped up the campaign makes Judgment feel like it’s nothing but horde mode with some what of a story. Judgment was meant to feel young, and they succeeded with changing the formula of the overall game play.

To flesh out the story, Epic uses the Declassified system which puts certain stipulations on the mission, like only using shotguns or having thick fog to cover the battlefield. Going through the Declassified missions help raise your star rating- by collecting stars you can unlock multiplayer skins, videos and Aftermath mode.

Another trick Epic throws in is the Smart Spawn system. This is actually pretty clever because every time you play a level over again, a lot of the Locust change. The first time you play a level you may encounter crawlers, and the next time you try to go back and get 3 stars you get blown to hell by a boomer. And speaking of feeling young, Epic threw some Just for Men all up on the Gear’s heads, because Judgment is extremely beautiful. There is so much attention to detail, from each Kilo members outfit to the flames burning down buildings. This game will make you wish you could scoop up a lancer and join the fight. Sadly, this is where most of Judgments pro’s end.

Judgment’s AI is horrendous. Your team members are some of the dumbest asses ever- if you’re not within 5 yards of someone when you’re downed, you’re finished for which isn’t good because when your downed, your star meter depletes. The enemy’s AI isn’t all that smart either, running straight at you just waiting to get blasted to bits. I have no problem helping them but what’s the fun in that?

The Gears story never really caught me, it was mostly the multiplayer. Gears multiplayer has been known for its tactical team oriented style. From laying down cover fire so a team member can get close enough to blow them to bits with the gnasher, it was all-in-all about working as a team, something it had over the CoD games. Judgment totally throws that out the window to try to bring in something new and fresh and it completely fails.

Modes like Team Death Match felt like a CoD rip off that’s not as fun. You see, Epic changed everything from the loadout, which in the original you had a assault rifle, shotgun, pistol and grenades, to where multiplayer only allows you to have only 2 weapons. That’s where multiplayer gets all fucked up. Everyone is running around not in cover, using shotguns. It’s just not fun. Not only that but the already extremely strong grenades are newly sticky for some reason, so when dodge and shotguns blast from your enemy, you’re most likely going to be hit with a sticky grenade. Not only that, but downing an enemy is no longer in multiplayer. This allowed you to use an enemy as a meat shield or a moving bomb by jamming a grenade in them then kicking them towards their team mates. By taking this out it removes another level of strategy from the multiplayer that is already boring as hell. Active Reloads are no longer present, the reason Epic removed this is beyond me. Multiplayer is extremely thin on modes as well, only having 4 modes: Team Death Match, Free for All, Domination and Over Run. Free for All is one of the new modes that puts 10 Gear members together to use everything (mostly shotguns) and anything to destroy each other. Domination is your traditional Territories mode, hold down one spot for a set amount of time, rinse, repeat. The new Over Run mode is Epic version of Rush mode from Battlefield, destroy the Gears E-Hole cover then move on to the next area. You play as either the Locust or Gear members.

Each side has different classes that have different jobs on the battlefield. On the Gear side you have Baird, who acts as your technician that throws down turrets and repairs your fortifications, Cole, who is your heavy gunner, Padok, who acts as your scout and is equipped with new sensor grenades that show the enemies location, and Sofia, who is your healer of the team that totes shiny new healing grenades. On the Locust side you have your Ticker, which is the fastest way to bring down the Gear’s fortifications. Grenadiers act as your heavy units so you can push into your enemy lines when you find an opening. The Kantus Locust is your healers. Take down enough Gear’s and you can purchase second tier Locust (Corpser’s, Mauler’s, Rager’s, and Serapede) to help in your mission.

Our Honest View gives, Gears Of War Judgement 2/5. Judgment was a huge disappointment to me. Epic tried too hard to make things new and exciting but failed by falling on the pretty young faces. If you’re a fan of any of the previous Gears, don’t buy this game. With downing, active reloads, control changes, and missing multiplayer modes, Epic shot themselves in the foot (thank god they don’t use active reloads anymore or it would hurt) and when the next Gears arrives, it’s going to take a lot for them to get this fan back.

Review: "Army of Two: The Devil's Cartel DEMO" (2013) "Can Bromances Save The Day?"

REMEMBER to BECOME a FAN by LIKING our FACEBOOK page: Our Honest View

That the demo EA offers us on the psn I'll keep my review short.

From the 15 minutes or so of gameplay this game looks just like the other two Army Of Two in the series. Boring, repetitive and only good with two players.

Granted this game has potential as did the other too. When you play with a friend you can team up, and destroy. However like most co-op based games the AI hurts you more than it helps you.

In this demo you play as Alpha and your partner is Bravo, two badass' killing a army of drug traffickers. When teaming up with Bravo I found the screen telling me, that your partner has killed someone, or decoy. I thought I was shooting this guy but....NOPE Bravo takes the kill. Even the enemies were intense. Very few times I felt I had the advantage even when we sneaked up, they turned about and easily shoot the crap out of us!

God the controls in this demo were just evil! Granted it was your same run of the mill third person shooter BUT you have action buttons like taking cover or vaulted which make it very difficult to do. I know it wasn't my controller, and the game felt sluggish.

It's possibly that's a small glitch that can be fixed in the finished product, well I hope so. I would hate to have to play the entire game where I am constanly tapping the same bottom to vault or transfer cover to kill someone.

Oh wait why would I have to worry about missing opportunities? I have a AI who takes care of everything for me.

Another problem I had with this demo was the graphics make the game difficult to kill anything, especially when your in the air. Everything looks so blemished that it all blends together in one weird cool.

Plus none of it looks realistic which is a hard idea to grasp I know! Especially with the idea that the game is based on realistic ideas etc. The deaths don't even seem realistic either, I mean if I shoot you up close with a shotgun, sorry but your gone bro...

However this game does have a positive note, the rest of the demo make suck BUT it has some realism to it. For one your in a crappy building with badass guns so when shooting at a structure the enemies are behind you can shoot right through. That being said you can also fatally shoot someone in the chest with one shot and not have to shoot them several times like most shooter games.

Only downside is the fact that if you shoot your enemies with shotguns across the rooms you can fatally shoot them, that just doesn't feel right to me.

The "bromance" between Alpha and Bravo is definitely there, they seem together in cut scenes, and of course when climbing up the walls or breaching. Since there is no real story in this demo it's hard to say if this romance will blossom for a good story or you'll be doomed with a bad AI.

Our Honest View gives Army of Two: Devil's Cartel demo 2.5/5. There's nothing impressive or anything screaming out that makes me want to drop 60$ on this game. The demo has all it's worse features and not many of the ones that Army of Two fans enjoy. And with no story or any give ways in the demo how can we be sure this is a typical co-op game.

The Media Buzz: March 12th!

Lots of games and movies are being announced every day. An with Pax East on the horizon it looks like there may not be enough time to showoff all these games!

REMEMBER to LIKE our FACEBOOK page Our Honest View

3 of biggest things today in the media world are; Hangover 3 trailer, The Last Of Us official demo, and of course the release date for Beyond Two Souls!

First let's talk about the new Hangover 3 trailer titled; "The Hangover Part III" with a tentative release date of May 24th, 2013. The trailer seems to be promising us something you, kinda of!

Of course to end the series with a epic conclusion you'd have to return to where this series started Las Vegas. According Zach Galifianakis the point of the movie will be saving Alan from a mental. Something new and exciting.

Also!

A funeral scene shown in the trailer. This movie leaves much surprise and looks like the same premise of the other two movies but hopefully different story. Isn't that we love the series? A horse can do the same trick a 1,000 times, but it's only exciting maybe the first thirty or so.

                                                                                   **Borrowed from Warner Bros.**

Now let's talk about the official demo of the highly anticipated game, The Last of Us. Confirmed by Naughty Dog and on the case of God of War: Ascension, buyers will be able to get to play a exclusive demo of the game.

BUT WHEN IS THIS?

Naughty Dog confirmed today that GoW buyer's will be able to play the demo on May 31st, 2013.. So long away and yes you'll have to hold on to the game till then!

This will give us two weeks to play the demo BEFORE the game comes out with it's new tentative release date of June 14th, 2013. Don't be fooled by the instructions in the game case that say May 7th 2013, this not the real date and the game was pushed up!

However all the pre-order bonus' of The Sights and Sounds Pack are correct, confirmed by Gamestop!
Pre-ordering this game will get you the following!
  1. Official  Game Soundtrack
  2. PS3 Dynamic Theme
  3. PlayStation Network Avatars: Winter Joel and Elie
AND people that don't buy the GoW game may NOT be able to play any sort of demo and may have to wait till June!

If this was any other company than Naughty Dog I'd be worried only giving me two weeks to test out their potential game of the year.

Third and final in our Daily News is the release date of Beyond: Two Souls, another Ps3 exclusive developed by Quantic Dream. A french developing company who we're also responsible for my favorite and one of the best games ever! Heavy Rain! And the date for all you fans is October 18th, 2013.

If you still not don't know what this game is! Well shame on you. This is the game everyone has been talking about since E3 last year!

Ellen Paige voice and motion captured ring a bell and protagonist.

A supposed antagonist as the likes of Willem Dafoe? What's not to like about this game?!

This game will explore what happens after death and of course follow the life of Ellen Paige's character Jodie.

This isn't a sequel to Heavy Rain though they promised us one!

To sum up today's media buzz in 60 words of less , The Hangover Part III promised a new story and not as stale as the last sequel. While The Last Of Us leaves Sony fans waiting to play the demo after they just paid 60$! And Beyond: Two Souls will be out this year! Leaving the question which out of the two will be game of the year? Only time!
